'70 Challenger 383 Exhaust Manifold Attaching Hardware - 05/31/08 05:45 PM

I am in the process of putting HP manifolds on my '70 Challenger with 383. When I bought it the car had headers with bolts. I know the factory setup used studs and nuts, but I also know that some big blocks used sleeve nuts as well. What is the correct way to attach the factory HP manifold to a '70 383? If it uses sleeve nuts, what sizes and where do they go? Thanks,

Joe

here's an old pic of the '70 383 that's in my B-body. Pretty straight forward on what goes where once you start putting it together. Don't forget to seal the studs into the heads.

Edit: I just bought a stainless harware kit from one of the vendors... IIRC A+M

Looks good! I already ordered the spark plug brackets, but wasn't sure if I needed the sleeve nuts or not. I have a set of 8 studs and regular nuts already. From the pic it looks like the last 2 studs have sleeve nuts on them. Is that a correct assumption?

The issue I have is none of my cars have the correct hardware. They either have headers and bolts, or exhaust manifolds with bolts. That being said I have nothing to reference on what is correct. I have seen the exhaust manifold kits, but they come with 8 studs, 8 nuts and 3 sleeve nuts. It sounds like its a universal blanket application, so I'm not sure which pieces I need to go with. Thanks for the pic.

Nine nuts and three sleeve nuts with HP manifolds. The manifolds will show you where the sleeve nuts go.

Thanks, I see now that the attaching kit uses all the pieces etc. I notice in the kit that the smaller sleeve nut does not have the hole in the top hex portion. Is this correct, or are all the sleeve nuts supposed to be hollow the whole length? Thanks again for the help.
