65 Coronet - 05/31/08 05:44 PM

I bought a set of inner fender shield seals for the Coronet. Can anybody tell me how to install them? The seals are in four pieces, with 8 clips & 8 staples. The fender shields don't seem to have holes to fasten the seals to. Need help. Thanks alot.

I put all that stuff on my 65 last summer. Are you talking about the inner rear splash shield (tall, vertical shield mounted behind wheel) or the inner front splash shield (by the headlights)?

I remember the inner front splash shield seals popping into the shield through holes. But I can't recall exactly how the rear splash shield seals went on. I want to say that they slide over the edge of the shield. I'll have a look at them and see if I can remember exactly.

These are the rear inner splash shield seals. What I have does not look like what I need. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Here are some pics of my inner rear splash shields. They definitely pop into existing holes. There's one long seal that goes from top to bottom and one top seal. Both seals pop into existing holes in the splash shields.

Here's the original tall vertical seal snapped in place from the back side of the seal as removed from my car:

Here's the inner splash shields that I freshened up before installing the new seals. You cann see the holes in the splash shields for the clips.

You can also see the holes for the top splash shield in the shield on the right in this pic. It has staggered holes that match the staggered shape of that top seal.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the pics. What Restoration Specialties called a splash shield seal is definitely not what you showed me. Where did you get the seals from? Where did you get the splash shields from? Mine came from Laysons and did not have the small clip holes. Thanks for the help.

Just got off the phone w/ Restoration Spec. Turns out I ordered Frame Rail Seals. My fault. No wonder I couldn't fit them! Still, where did you get the shields from? I like yours better.
Thanks

Splash shields are original to the car, I refurbished them myself. Splash shield seals were bought on ebay a couple of years ago. They came in some funky 70s packaging, so they were old.

I would refer you to Joe Suchy for the seals. He sells all the early B stuff. And he knows the early b's like no one else. You won't go wrong with him. I met him a few years ago. Great guy.

His email:
dinahandjoe@peoplepc.com

He's also got a complete list of all the new stuff he sells listed on the 62-65 mopar site. And he has tons of original parts. If you need the actual splash shields, I'm sure he has them.

Get in touch with him and you won't have to do any guess work.

Layson's repopped sheetmetal is disapponting. I bought one piece from them and it was useless.

I'm pretty sure Restoration Specialties and what Joe sells are the same items. It's just nice to talk to someone who knows exactly what you need. I've learned a lot from him. And when it comes to early b-bodies, there aren't nearly as many informed suppliers as the 66 and up suppliers.
