1970 Lynch Road fender tag help and info please - 07/05/16 11:56 PM

Hello everyone. I am trying to figure out 1970 Lynch Road fender tags. First off, does anyone know of a good place to find the information about the numbers on the top (gate number, axle code, etc)? Second. If you have a lynch Road car of any sort, slant six to hemi. Can you please DM me a picture of the fender tag with full vin, and the axle your car came with please? They will be for my personal use and will not be shared.

Thank you

most of the codes are covered in GG's "white books"

post a picture or the specific info & your questions will find their answers

Someone asked about this a while back but his tag was missing, so he could not provide a photo.

It was not hard to see what that guy was up to.

So no one will help because I didn't post a pic of my tag? I want to learn, thats all.

Is there any website that shows how to read them?

Most times you have to give something to get something.

Here are some pics of my 70 Super Bee 383 auto Lynch road car. I am wanting to learn about the numbers at the very top of the tag to have a better understanding of these tags. Why do they have the engine code on there three times (E63, N, 088)? Are the gate numbers etc... unique to every car? Do they not show the stripe codes? My car has a white C stripe, but I don't see it on the fender tag.

here's a good start to understand '70 Lynch Rd. (or an assembly plant in general)

building the Superbird up

the gate/base number refers to the fixtures at the plant used to construct the uni-body

different plants did some things in different ways
Lynch Rd. used the last 3-digits of the 7-digit "ENGINE/TRANSMISSION/AXLE assembly part number" on their fender tags, this same info is on a broadcast sheet

N = 383 4bbl (& is included as part of the VIN)
E63 = 383 4bbl
xxxx 089 = orange engine assembly for B/E-body - 383HP 4bbl (335hp) with A/C & Holley carb. for automatic transmission
or
xxxx 088 = orange engine assembly for B/E-body - 383HP 4bbl (335hp) w/Holley carb. for automatic transmission
etc.

As a side note, the part in that Superbird build-up article about the inspection stamps & punches in the fender tag is intriging & kind of funny: basically, the more problematic cars got more paint dabs & punches than normal.
Funny to think that so many guys apply paint dabs, which if accurate to that car, indicate how hard it was to get it acceptable...

Good question...

Three different formats for the same info.

E63 is a sales code for 383-4bbl
N is administrative and 'short hand' for 383-4bbl.

In this format, tell only tell you the 'what'; the car got a 383-4bbl.

088 is an assembly code and tells you the 'which'. It tells you which 383-4 engine the car actually received.
