Non-Vented Tan Dual Point Caps - 04/22/16 10:56 PM

Hey guys, since no one is making these, wondering if there is a run made, if they would be popular. Brass terminal, ultra heavy duty compression molded, with voltage blocks inside..

I go out of my way to find the non vented caps. So, yes I think there would be a demand for them.

I get the tan color, non-vented, and brass inserts, but what makes a cap dual point?

Re: Non-Vented Tan Dual Point Caps - 04/22/16 11:56 PM

It has the sprung, graphite contact for the coil contact. The Chrysler Electronics just have a button. These are a lot heavier and have the voltage blockers molded in the inside of the cap..

I have a new tan non vented cap. I will have to check and see if it a dual point cap or not.

Also different is the notch where it mounts over the distributor body and indexes the cap.

Re: Non-Vented Tan Dual Point Caps - 04/26/16 05:03 PM

Is that for a single point? Does anyone know the part number (NAPA) for a tan single point cap with brass internals, no vent?

Considering the last 3 NOS caps I had recently sold in the $175-$225 range, and the avg asking price is $250, and most guys running "correct OEM restos" are usually running a well worn cap (inside) because of the scarcity and price associated with purchasing a "new" cap, or putting on an old "bad" cap just for shows/judging, I'd say it would be a welcome repro, if the price was within reason, quality materials and construction, as well as correct details were maintained, I'd think you have a profitable mover in sales, be nice if you considered reproing all the TAN cap applications...hmmmm

Dual point is a Prestolite unit and it uses a different cap than the single point/electronic dist.

I found a NOS single point cap in the garbage of a house that was being cleaned out for resale.

Re: Non-Vented Tan Dual Point Caps - 05/02/16 06:38 PM

Thank you sir!

I ordered one of these from Summit last year (Aug '15). When I opened the box it had the big black vent on it. So I returned it for a refund.

The pic on Summit's website did not show a vent just like Jegs pic. I don't know if they changed the part after the pic or what the deal was. Has anyone bought one recently?

Re: Non-Vented Tan Dual Point Caps - 06/03/16 02:08 AM

I found the tan cap I took off the distributor in my 71 Challenger 340 and it has the following numbers inside the cap 2444507 which appears to be a Mopar number. I replaced it with the NAPA AL1290. I did a google search using NAPA AL1290 and the pic that comes up shows a non vented tan cap for a dual point distributor which is what I received. I'm purchasing another and will put the two caps side by side in some pics.

Re: Non-Vented Tan Dual Point Caps - 06/04/16 01:46 AM

2444507 is the part number for a single point cap
dual point is 2585000

Napa part number for the tan cap for dual point dist is AL1680

Re: Non-Vented Tan Dual Point Caps - 06/05/16 04:29 AM

I checked and the old tan cap #2444507 is off a single point distributor. I ordered the AL1290 yesterday and here is from their (NAPA's) web site.
https://www.napaonline.com/napa/en/search?text=ECH%20AL1290
I have a black one that fits on a dual point distributor I have and I'll compare the two. Thanks.

Re: Non-Vented Tan Dual Point Caps - 07/11/16 10:45 PM

I finally picked up the AL 1290 NAPA Dual Point cap today and here are pictures of the cap. There's a vent hole drilled behind the one hold down clip, the other one doesn't have a hole. Brass posts.

Re: Non-Vented Tan Dual Point Caps - 07/11/16 10:52 PM

Is that for the dual point Dist? The places for the hold down clips look higher than normal.

Re: Non-Vented Tan Dual Point Caps - 07/11/16 11:23 PM

Yes it is for a dual point, a single point cap does not look like that.

Re: Non-Vented Tan Dual Point Caps - 07/11/16 11:33 PM

Here's the NAPA cap installed on my dual point distributor. The step the clip snaps on to measures 15/16" from bottom edge of cap to top of step. It runs just fine.

Here is an original 2585000 Chrysler dual point cap,the single point has a higher slot and a longer and narrower clip, not even close to the dual point.

That's awesome!

I still have not found a single point cap with brass contacts that does not have that big ugly vent on the top. Anybody have an idea who sells them?

Noted your post for tan, non-vented DP dist cap. Available? NOS 2585000 or OEM equiv? If not, comp to the Echlin AL1290? Thanks!
