Correct 71 Road Runner horn

Correct 71 Road Runner horn - 01/16/16 09:43 PM

I currently have an early long bracket horn in my 71 which pushes up against the washer bottle. I purchased a short bracket horn at Carlisle last year but it is threaded so I don't see how it would mount so I assume its 72 up. Is 71 a one year only short bracket horn? Pics of whats correct? Thanks

All Road Runner horns have a threaded bracket. If it doesn't it is a forklift Sparton "Bp Bp" horn. You must have it mounted in the wrong area...

OK, then how is a 71 horn mounted and where? Is the horn I posted correct for 71? My car is low mileage and there is no evidence of a bolt coming from the back side of the fender well.

on my 72 the horn is mounted forward of the radiator support inside of the fender.

your pic looks like a 72 horn. they have threads tapped into the bracket for the bolt thru the fender fender.

In my experience, 71 should be the long bracket

Would appear your horn is mounted backwards on the bracket, should be facing forward (as Eric’s picture shows). The rivets having been replaced by screws and nuts indicate someone has had it apart.

FPM shows the same horn for both 70 and 71. All the reproduction companies show different horns for 70 and 71 which doesn't surprise me. They usually don't know what their product fits.

Mine has the long bracket as well and I agree with 72roadrunnergtx that someone had this thing apart.

If my memory is correct, a short bracket wont fit both the bolt hole and the tab (where it attaches to inner fender) at the same time.

I understand it has been apart and one of the main reasons I asked the question. I bought the short bracket one due to most of the ones I see advertised its listed for 71 and up but obviously is not as moparmarks said. Lots of good info I will look for a nice used original at Carlisle this year.

What is the decal orientation on a 71 horn?

Upside down when mounted on the car. I'll try to get a photo later.
