Interesting Tie Rod Boot pn 1858262 - 01/08/16 06:39 AM

I parted out a mostly original (as in spark plug wires, etc.) '66 Coronet and it has strange tie rods boots that we had not seen before. The part number is 1858262. Does anyone know how long these were used and what the application range is?

Thanks and happy New Year!

Jeremiah

# 1858262 & 263. The factory parts book describes it as "Steering Link Outer Tie Rod End Seal SHIELD". It is listed in the 1962 through 1967 books for all models. Fits over the outer tie rod and boot.

Do they reproduce these? I have a gentleman inquiring but am in a quandary. Use them on my silver Coronet (or the 500 convertible), which are both driven, or put them on a collector type car?

I suppose my question is how hard are these to find? Not much comes up on google other than the usual astronomical sellers of NOS stuff.

Note, this is NOT a WIW.

I don't know if they're repopped but I'm sure the superior design was dumped as cost-saving move.

I have seen them over the years, but uncommon for sure. I have a pair I held on to.

I suppose it would be best to hang on to them for my future HEMI car. Thank you all for the insight.
