Engine paint in rattle-cans- who's got them?

Engine paint in rattle-cans- who's got them? - 01/02/16 08:44 PM

I'm looking for a can of Turquoise engine paint ('69 Charger 383). Last month I thought Summit had some in stock but they had shown it on backorder - they expected some in at the end of the month. I broke down and ordered a can anyway, thinking I won't have time to use it until after the holidays anyway.

I just checked the status of my order and now they say it'll be in stock at the end of January. Seeing where this was heading, I canceled my order and started looking around on the Internet, but so far I can't find any Turquoise engine paint in spraycan form (Eastman's has it in cans, but I don't have a compressor/spraygun)

Can anyone suggest a source for this paint in spraycan form? It doesn't have to be a exact match - 'close enuf' would be fine for me...

Thanks!
David

You can use paint out of a can and a Preval sprayer. Any hardware store should have them on the shelf.

Thanks for the quick replys!

@drmopar- just checked Mancini, they've got several colors but turquiose isn't on their list.... smirk
@neil - cool- I might go ahead and go that route- didn't know they had that available....
@RS23U1G - would you happen to have the part number to that Plasti-Kote? Just checked their website and I couldn't find a entry for turquoise engine paint....

My mistake...

What I have is 'Dupli-Color'...

Label reads: DE 1631 Chrysler Blue

(Check 1643-might be closer to 'turquoise'...)

AH ok- I found DupliColor's website and ... well, it's blue smile I need Turquoise. However, according to DupliColor's website I might be able to get away with using Detroit Diesel Alpine Green (DE1618). Probably not a exact match but pretty close- I have to replace the fuel pump (which is painted MP Turquoise), and since the replacement is bare metal, and my supply of MP Turquoise had dried up long ago (didn't realize it'd become a collector's item smirk ) I needed a rattlecan to paint the replacement. But the Alpine Green should be close enough- it'd be better than leaving it bare metal....

Thanks!

your auto paint supply store can make it in acrylic enamel . if you check around , a lot of them can put that paint in an aerosol spray can for you ...or you can go buy a pre-val kit at a local s/w paint store..my local paint store charges me $4.00 to put my paint in their spray can.. just another possable option !

That was the very first place I went to- our local Dodge dealer. The guy at the counter gave me a strange look and said that they don't carry engine paint anymore- but I can find some at the local auto parts store...

That's how I originally got my MP engine paint many years ago, but apparently the dealer can't or won't get it anymore....

This'll work- thanks! After all was said and done, it was $25 for one can (including shipping), but still cheaper than if I had bought a quart can from Hirsch/Eastwood with a Preval sprayer, which was my backup plan....

Ok..... that's odd though- I did check their website, and while they had several colors listed, I didn't see turquoise. Must've missed it somehow smirk
