1966 B BODY 426 Hemi steel wheel info? - 12/30/15 10:35 PM

Looking for info on wheel size and part numbers if available for 1966 B body steel wheels that were available with 426 Hemi optioned cars. Photos of original wheels & parts number info would be awesome. Thanks! Joe

Thanks!!! Were these wheels used on other years as well? Are there any part numbers stamped into them? Thanks again! Joe

1966 only, no part numbers or pentastar. 67 wheels looked the same but only one or two extra holes instead of 5, depending on plant or date.

Correct, no part#'s, and 66's didn't have date codes, neither did early 67's, but late 67's did.

Here is a 67 wheel that I photo shopped to appear like a correct 66 wheel (I added the extra holes between the lugs). The second pic is a correct 67 wheel for comparisons.

Here's the stamping by the valve stem, 66/67 looked the same. In 1966 they came on Hemi cars, B-body station wagons, and possibly 383 B-body cars.

In 67 they came on Hemi and 440 B-body cars and B-body station wagons,

What was the purpose of the extra holes?

No purpose, just a vestige from the old tapered axle days.

I had a 67 383 belvedere II that had HD suspension with 11" brakes, sway bar, 323 sure grip, 26" radiator no A/C. It had these 5.5 " wheels, 5 of them with 7.75-14 tires. Car had the window sticker with it.

Nanket, I don't doubt it a bit, I had not seen an original 67 383 car to confirm it but since 66 383's had them it makes sense.

I am ALWAYS looking for those and have only found a few sets in 20 years. The bigger problem is that most sellers who claim to have a "correct" set, don't, a LOT of misidentified examples floating around.

It's no easy task so good luck! Look for wagons and don't forget about 66 383 B-body 4 doors.

I have sold these for the past 17 or so years, & have had VERY few of them too. Can't get any more of them. Some of these came in 14x6" as well - REALLY rare! Notice the small keyway in one of the small holes - most of them had this, but not all. The 15" ones are barely available.

I don't think the (10 hole) 14 x 5.5" wheels pictured in the link above are correct for '66 Hemi cars, as they have more backspacing and additional wheel cover "humps" around the rim shell. I pulled a few off '64 B-bodies.

The 15" wheels in the link are common on mid '60s pick-ups and vans.

I wonder about the (6 hole) 14 x 5.5" wheels posted by Scott, as my '66 Hemi Belvedere came with a set that appeared original to the car.

I dug up this old pic I took of an original 66 hemi bluestreak tire and wheel I had 25+ years ago. Tire had never been taken off the rim yet. If I look at it with a magnifying glass you can see all 10 holes in it.

Re: 1966 B BODY 426 Hemi steel wheel info? - 01/06/16 04:42 PM

It is possible that the 5 hole style came on some later 66 cars and also 10 hole wheels on early 67 cars. Having said that I have never seen an original car with either exception.

66-67 Hemi width wheels were 14 x 5.5 (not 14 x 6.0)

Mid 50's and late 50's full sized Chrysler's, Plymouths, and DeSoto's used the exact same looking 14" x 5.5" and 14" x 6" rims with the 10 holes and one of the small holes has the squared slot. Some of the rims had the 3 nubs for dog dish center hubcaps and some rims did not. They look exactly like the above pics.

I am sure that is true, but what I said before but I did not properly describe was both 5.5" and 6.0" width wheels were used back then . I think different models used different widths. Look on the forwardlook site, They have a category on tires and wheels and there are a few discussions there about the different wheels.

After talking to some different people, I believe that these 14x6 wheels were original equipment on a 67 Belvedere II station wagon.

1967 B-bodies had 14x5.5" as the largest wheel. They also had only one extra small hole, not 10 like your shows.

In 66 67 and 68 14x6 wheels were on C-body's.

Re: 1966 B BODY 426 Hemi steel wheel info? - 03/24/17 07:51 PM

1966 Hemi cars, B-body station wagons, and possibly B-body 383 cars came with the same 14 x 5.5" wheels. No 14 x 6.0 wheels came on 66 B-body cars. These wheels had 10 holes.

The same wheels were used on 1967 Street Hemi cars (as the standard steel wheel) and were also used on:

67 B-body wagons
67 440 (and Hemi) Chargers
67 GTX's
*And possibly on some other 383 equipped B-body cars

The 67 Wheels were 100% identical to the 66 wheels but only had 6 holes, 5 lug holes and 1 axle pin hole. It is possible that some early 67 cars got the 66 10 hole wheels but I have never seen a proven original that came this way.

After March of 1967 these wheels had stamped in date codes, there were no visible date codes on earlier versions.

*Pics are of a matched set of 67 Hemi wheels dated 3-31 (March 31, 1967). the black wheel is single 67 Hemi wheel (the spare) from a different car spd'd November 1966.
