BOM numbers on a 72 B body Dana 60 housing

BOM numbers on a 72 B body Dana 60 housing - 10/09/15 02:35 AM

I went to look at a dana 60 rear end yesterday and took my list of BOM numbers from two websites. They listed the rear end as a 70-72 B body. Of course we all know that a 71-72 b body is a different cat than a 70. Of coarse they listed a 69 e body as well. The numbers are 603222-2 with a date code of 5-13-2. Looks like a rare piece to me. My question is what website has the correct info? The ones I have found do not even list a 71-72 b body housing.

This should help.

That is the same wrong info that I already have. A 69 and 70 rear end for a b body is different than a 71-72. Ask dr dif. My Spicer chart listed 69 e body rear. They don't make those either.

Well, that is a scan from a Dana publication. If it's wrong then Dana made the error.

Yes. You are correct. I've seen the same published info on several sites. They are all wrong. I was hoping someone had the correct info.

Obviously Spicer has it wrong & most likely Dr.diff has it all figured out & will hopefully chime in & set the recorded straight, you could also measure the rear & figure it out.

Dr. diff does have it figured out. I knew what it was by the date code and not the BOM numbers. It just happened to have been restored and sold by him ten years ago. It had Quality bodyshop and drivetrain on the box with no address!

I believe this is correct.

This is the 3.54 DANA 60 from a largely correct/intact 60K mile '72 GTX (St. Louis, Dec. 1971 assembled), date codes for the whole car are all over the place.

John Ks list still shows a 69 E body,could you really get a 4.56 or 5.38 gear.
FastM I forgot you had the date code there.

That list is still incorrect, but I think the low gears and later date codes designate over-the-counter Dana 60 rearend assemblies sold by Direct Connection.

The list is only a guide @ this time & not gospel if you don't pick up on the already outlined minor mistakes I guess it could mess you up,print one out & make the corrections.
