1970 & 1971 29944450 15 x 7 Steel Wheels - 09/01/15 04:18 AM

I'm doing a bit of wheel research. If you own or have good photos of someone else's wheels please post pictures of the valve stem areas with the dates, part#'s, and plant info stampings. Also, the plant stampings on the hub center areas.

Also, have any of you ever seen an original lacking the Pentastar stamping?

Here are a few shots to get things going.

Hi Scott, yep I can post more of the back sides and inside bead areas as soon as my son shows me how to reduce the giant sized pics i have. I even have a close up of the markings on the original valve stems. (the side you don't see inside the rim). Cool stuff.

Cool, any pics appreciated. I'm looking to document manufacturing dates, assembly plant info, and anything oddball. I'll post more of my own later.

Hi Scott,

I have 4 sets of 450 wheels, each set with matching datecodes:
- One set of 4 with 12-11-69 dates
- One set of 4 with 9-25-70 dates
- A second set of 4 also with 9-25-70 dates
- One set of 4 that are hard to read, but I think they are 9-30-70. On all 4 of these wheels they seem to have a line over the top of the '9', very faint but on all 4 wheels.

Here's pictures of one wheel from each set.

- Wade

A few shots of mine, after bead blasting.
What's interesting is the incomplete "0" stamp by the valve stem, almost looks like a "1".
The "0" stamp on the inside rim confirmed it was a '70 wheel.

Regarding the purple wheels off the '70 Challenger posted above, was it common or possible to have a date code spread that far off the same car?
Not questioning, just curious.

Very late date code, and I don't believe that's an incomplete "0" it's a 1. I've seen it before (the hub and the hoop dates being different) the date by the valve stem is the latest date as it is the final assembly date of the wheel assembly. Is there a pentastar after the date? I don't see one? Do you have a set of 4 of those? Are they known to be original to your car?

I only know what I was told by the fella who sold them to me. He purchased the Challenger new and installed a mags right away he said. I've never seen a set that were six weeks apart either before this set but they were matching in every way other than the dates. Hey I guess ya never know. Some rims could be stamped and sitting around and then car could have been assembled in Feb. 1970....who knows. I owned a 1971 Charger R/T 440 Sixpack with a G for 1971 stamped right over the top of the F for 1970 on the machined pad near distributor. Found out that it was more common on Hemis but occasionally RB engine long blocks would sit and get restamped for the next year. The nice part about that engine was that since it was actually a 1970 440 Sixpack long block assembly it had a slightly hotter cam profile than a G coded 1971 unit. Pretty cool....thanks for letting it sit for the extra months. smile

Scott,
No the wheel is not original to the car.
I'm sending you a PM to keep the thread on topic.

EL5,
Good to know. Goes to show inconsistencies are all over. smile

Hey Scott: are you talking about wheels only or other oddball items? I might have some for you otherwise.
