68 Charger brake booster

68 Charger brake booster - 01/20/09 11:28 AM

Hi Guys,

I have a question in regards to a 68 Charger's power brake booster. Does the factory booster have the retaining strap that runs around the booster to sandwich the two booster halves together held in place by a long bolt that is subsequently bent to match the contour of the booster? You can see it on the booster in this pic at about the 9 o'clock position. Seems odd that the factory would bend a bolt like that, but maybe so. It still has some factory parking on it too. I took it apart to inspect/restore it and was just curious if I was wasting my time if it was a replacement. Thanks!

Cheers

That is the correct booster for power drum brakes in '68. I'll see if I can find my pics.

That looks like a Bendix booster that would be used on disc brake cars. It appears to have the original drum brake master cylinder attached (Disc brake master cylinders have the lines attaching from the inboard side of body).
Here is a pic of an original booster on a power drum 1968 Charger 383 4V. It is the flat type which is crimped together.

Here's the pic of the engine compartment on my '68.
