Nice to see someone actually putting the stripe back on a 71 X. This was standard with the GTX, but I see very few "restored" with it. It was hand painted (and very poorly) at the factory.

Just did a 71 gtx for my cousin. I taped the stripe w/ 1/4in fine line. Sprayed it w/ semi gloss black. What I found out is- when the car came from the factory it was vinyl tape but if the car didn't & you wanted it on the dealership painted it on. I can send some pics or post some on hear if I new how to do it lol

All 71 GTXs came from the factory with the body pinstripe. It was standard not optional. Every original paint car I've seen had it painted, not taped.

Hmmmm....I've only seen painted lower panel stripe on the GTX's, when I did the stripe on the Dayclona 71 GTX convertible, I used Trimbrites 3/16 width (close enough to the factory .200 width stripe specs) Black Brush Tapeline tape pinstiping, the tape has a texture to it to simulate the brush/bristle lines that a hand painted pin stripe exhibits...no one at the time could answer whether the painted stripe was "hand" applied or done with a tooling/stencil jig and paint wheel? still wondering on that?

Info we've got is it was hand-painted...

But that's verbal, nothing 'documented' to back-it up...

I'd tend to agree with you on that, as every example of the factory applied original GTX pin stripes that I ever saw appeared pinstriped by hand rather than a paint wheel/stencil/lining jig that Chrysler employed on other applications

I was waiting for you to chime in Andy. I remember looking over your car years ago and thinking how poorly the factory striping was!
