Surface prep of EDP coated parts. - 01/18/09 08:50 PM

What is the best way to prep EDP coating on parts. I purchased a set of AMD fenders and I wont to make sure primer will stick to the EDP coating. Should I use a certain grit of sand paper or scotch brite or something of that nature. Thanks for your time.

and is this the same coating that was used on the older 1/4 panel patch panels also? before the full 1/4's of recent?

brown scotch pad and 320 or 280 grit will get the panels ready for primer

Before scuffing with a scotchbrite or 320 grit paper, best to wash down with wax and grease remover as otherwise you will sand any oils from handling into the primer. Can you say fisheyes?
Diztler DP50 epoxy primer is what I use, and Ditzler 330 wax and grease remover.

LMAO! Sand oils from handling into primer? what, a grease covered clown is working in a body shop? can you say "dumb comment"?

every shop has their prefferences, standards and procedures as well as using different tools, supplies and materials,

I don't feel like explaining every step when doing any type of prep work, I just assumed anyone with common sense would atleast wash the grease and oil off their hands before prepping panels for primer or paint

I'd fire your grease monkey body prep man

Thanks for the ideas. I will first wash the panels and then procede with sanding with 320grit.
I always wash any oils or grease from my hands before touching body panels. paint and oil dont go togethor well. Thanks again!!

Yes, yours... It's harsh and who knows where the part has been before we get them? Cleaning before sanding is what a quality shop does as standard procedure.

maybe you have dumb assumptions, read my previous post,as I said I have no time to break down and explain every step of prepping process, anyone with half brains who attempts to do any prep work would clean the parts

and you may want to quit if you're trying to call me out about quality , maybe next time istead of putting your dumb assumptions and comments with your , try to explain to the OP every step of prepping process before jumping my throat
