I ordered a door skin for my Cuda' from Classic Industries (talked to the guy over the phone) and asked if it was an AMD part and he said it was a Classic Industries panel and did not know who made it. A week later the door skin shows up in a Classic Industries box. I pulled it out of the box and the skin had the standard AMD label on it, so it turned out to be an AMD panel. I'm not sure this is always the case with sheet metal from them but it was for the part I ordered.

It can't hurt to call and ask, you might get a sales person who knows more then the guy I talked too.

Is being AMD sheet metal a good thing or not so good thing?

The Majority of AMD panels are nice replacement parts, there are some pcs/panels that have issues that will not be addressed by AMD as the tooling is done, and further investment is not viable in redesigning/correcting the part...your best posting on a forum and asking for input from those that have used the panel/parts in question as to their fit/finish and required remedies

...there will be the usual "dog pilers" that only voice what they have heard, rather than what they've experienced firsthand, and there's also the Ebay crowd that unknowingly buys "seconds" from bulk buyers...basically rejected panels from the mfg, I usually buy directly from AMD or from some of the Moparts AMD sellers to avoid any issues

I got an AMD rear valance for my '72 Challenger. It looks good and I have not fit it to the car yet as it is still on the rotisserie. I have filled in the bumperete cutouts and while I was doing so I noticed the license plate holder out of level by over 3/8". I drilled out the spot welds and realigned and welded it in place. Hopefully when I get the car back on it's wheels and can fit the part it will have no issues. Hopefully that can take place in the next month.
