Fuel line clamp tool.? - 12/04/14 05:05 PM

I bought the "concours" rubber fuel lines and clamps ( corbin?). What is the proper tool to clamp them?

Might not be 100% correct, but use a wire cutter (easy) and go one side to the other . . .

End cutters work good.

Re: Fuel line clamp tool.? - 12/04/14 05:27 PM

I bought the tool that Gary shows. Maybe I'm not using it correctly but I couldn't get the clamps to look like the original ones. They look pretty sloppy compared to what the original ones looked like.

The center piece moves around too much. If you could adjust the height and lock it there, I think it would do a better job.

I would use a file to remove and round off the cutting edges. This way you don't have to worry about nicking or weakening the clamp.

You can get the correct tool I'm pretty sure at at cheap chinese junk central , or Vatozone , for about 10 bucks .

If you use side cutters they will crimp them on, BUT, they will also allow the center piece of metal bend upwards forming a diamond shape which is incorrect in appearance. The proper pliers hold the top flat while the jaws pinch in the sides which also gives them a tighter grip.

A KD 424 above can be bought at any auto parts store or wherever they sell KD tools.
Then this tool for the corbin clamps.

The one on the left is a old Blue Point tool I got from the Snap On guy 30 years ago. It's missing a spring but still works fine.

The one on the right I found in a antique store recently, it's missing a part and is worthless like it is. I think it was 3 bucks, I couldn't resist.

Here's the KD version.web page

Please don't install your corbin clamps with pliers or channel locks.

These clamps (often called "Keystone" clamps) crimped with side cutters (Top) and with the correct pliers (Bottom). The clamp on the bottom is how they should look once clamped.

I think the OP is talking about the crimp style hose clamp rather than the Corbin spring style clamp.
Crimp style clamps and tools.

The offset style like that with the turned head are much more useful.

Re: Fuel line clamp tool.? - 12/05/14 11:16 PM

Also, if you are really going for the details, there are more than one style clamp being sold as "Concurs" "O.E." correct, etc.

IMO....

Best: Find NOS originals or find good used ones and re-plate/re-use them.

Next best: Buy reproductions from Bill Rolik www.billrolikenterprises.com. They look identical, correct numbers, etc. but the number stamping is stamped mirror image of the original

Close but different Number stamp than I've ever seen on an original car: ECS

Last: The generic dimpled style (on left in pic) offered by everyone else.

Re: Fuel line clamp tool.? - 12/06/14 03:53 AM

something to keep in mind as well if you want to go all out

the clamp plating color for the
1/4 line was yellow zinc dichromate
5/16 clamp was clear zinc
3/8 clamp was black zinc

I am not aware of anyone repoping all 3 correctly

I would get the one linked above from Lisle , if you are in a tight space they will be better than the one that goes at it like the side cutters would. I have the one that goes in like the side cutter , never knew there was the other one ...

Here is the specific tool used for the clamps made by Oetiker, which is the manufacturer of the the aftermarket clamps.
