70 challenger RT - 12/01/14 04:42 PM

Ok
I have a question for my 70 challenger RT.
I would like to put a set of Rallye wheels on my car.
So, can I put 15x8 wheels and BFG 275/60/15 on rear and 15x7 235/60/15 on front? If so, will the trim rings fit the 8 inch rim on the back?
Is this the factory specs?
Thanks for your help.

A factory 15x7 trim ring obviously won't fill the complete outboard side of the rim unless the back-spacing is where the additional 1" is. You might find a trim ring for a 15x8 application (like a Corvette trim ring)?

Dave the 275 nitto's on 15 x8 rims rubbed on my 70 cuda. The trim rings don't fit well and would spin on my rims.

You can get by using the 275's on a 7" rim and they will fit. I would use 225/70/15 on the front on 7" rims. They are taller and the car sets much nicer. Mike

Oh ok. The 275's rubbed? Hmm.So the 15inch wheel must have been factory for the front and the back.

It seems weird that they would make the 8 inch wheel but not a trim ring that fits correctly.

If they would have made a 8" rally wheel which they did not, they would have a ring to go with it !!

The trim rings are made for a 7 inch wheel, If you want to run 8 inch wheels, check the backspacing and add the extra inch to the backside, a 275-60-15 fits better on a 8 inch rim if possible

On your tire sizes 235 60-15 works but a 245 60-15 looks nicer and is more in line with a F-60 15 PolyGlas in size.
The 275 60-15 is no problem either. This is a picture of my old Cuda
235 60-15 and 275 60-15 on 7" steel wheels front and back.

Same car with 7" front and 8" rear
F 60-15 and L 60-15 PolyGlas.
This also answers your trim ring question.

Even though Corvettes used 15x8 rims the trim rings were no deeper than ours and left a gap.

I have 245/60 15's on 7 inch wide ralleys on all 4 corners on my 70 challenger. Tires do not rub.

My Challenger has 275's on rear with the 15x7 rallyes, and 245's on the front. 15x8's would likely rub.

Re: 70 challenger RT - 12/02/14 07:30 PM

I currently have the 15X8 w/ 4-1/2" b.s. on my Charger. They fit just fine on my Challenger also. There was no rubbing issues on either car. This was with 295/50/15's though. I didn't want the jacked up look of the taller 275's which is why I went with the 295's. there is a 1" gap with the trim ring. Not one person has ever mentioned or commented that they have ever noticed the gap to me anyway.
