1971 Rallye wheel argent paint

1971 Rallye wheel argent paint - 10/23/14 01:11 AM

I was going to respray my rims this winter on my 71 charger rt as they got a few nicks from driving it too much!

I have not been real happy with Totally auto lately as they have sent me a wrong color and made me wait 2 weeks for a new one AFTER I sent back the one they sent in error. I had requested extra tips because the last 2 cans of engine color I got from them had tip problems, well no extra tips showed up. Then the tip in my organisol can from them was hit or miss at best as I had to soak it twice in paint thinner just to get it to shoot from the can and then it clogged up again and splattered across the top of my wing!

So needless to say I am looking for a new source of paint. I checked on ebay and all I could find was this:

Is it just me or does that look too dark??

For a driver my go to rallye wheel paint has been Krylon dull aluminum with a coat of clear. Cheap and looks as good or better than the $$$ spray cans.

The MP paint looks fine and is all I used to use but last time I bought the Totally Auto paint and it is even nicer and not as gloss.

Michael, give this Dupli-Color Silver Caliper Paint a try. Number BCP103. I used the Totally Auto Rallye Wheel Paint and it looked a little on the green side to me. The more I looked at it, the more I wasn't happy with it. Here's a shot of a recent set I did for a driver. The color is very close to the original silver. It's now the only Rallye Wheel Silver that I like the best. Eddie

Older post, but here's a shot of a set I just mounted up. Paint on rims is Dupli-Color caliper paint. Trim rings and center caps are factory original. To my eyes, this paint is a great alternative and a close match to the original color.

This is a timely thread for me. I was just going to order some paint for the first time from Totally Auto. The Mopar Wheel paint from Jegs says it works on argent grilles. Is the same paint used on the smooth argent grill like a 69-70 Charger?

It will be close but I have excellent results with Totally Auto's grill silver for the grills I've done over the years. The MP rallye wheel paint has too much gloss for my taste.

I went down to my local powder coater and looked through his color samples. I'm very happy with the color that I selected. My rims were rusty and the price for blasting and coating was reasonable. I'm hoping that the finish will be more durable than rattle cans I've used in the past. I did use semi-gloss rattle can paint to black out the back of the rims.

They look really nice Kevin, let us know what powdercoat color or number you picked for the silver. I have a large powdercoating operation within 30 minutes of me.

The color was Anodized Silver from Tiger. I can get the specific number and post it after the holiday. My coater charged me $40 to blast and coat each rim. Since I don't have access to a sand blaster, I thought the price was very reasonable.

I've seen the Krylon dull aluminum 1401 compared to original paint non rusted So Cal 71 Rallye rims and it was a very close match. Same fine metallic and not shiny like some wheel paint (MP)
