Painting 68 Barracuda Dash Frame - 05/22/14 06:17 PM
It's almost time to paint the dash frame for the 'cuda. I did a search here to see what other people have used and I saw a few posts about SEM Trim Black. How easy was it to spray? Did you need to reduce it? What finish? (I assume satin)
Would the Instrument Specialties paint be better?

I tried to paint my dash frame black with Rustoleum trim paint from a spray bomb. As hard as I tried, I couldn't get the finish consistent enough to satisfy me. I eventually threw in the towel and took it to my local powder coater. He blasted and coated it with semi-mat fine texture powder for $65.00. The frame looks perfect. I probably spent that much money in time and paint trying to do it myself.

I think the SEM trim paint is too smooth. I like the Rustoleum Textured paint. Very fine texture.
I've seen a Totally Auto paint from a can shot from a gun and it was way too rough.

Although out of a spray gun is factory correct, There are many variables that affect the final product. I still think that powder coating is the easiest and more durable option......at least it was for me.

I used C&C Powder Coating in Ephrata, PA. Their phone number is (717)738-1240. I've had all of my powder coating done by them. I highly recommend their work. Tell them Kevin Miller sent you.
