1968 Hemi Numbers Matching questions....... - 05/26/08 05:59 PM

Have any of you ever seen and have undeniable proof of any original factry 1968 Hemi car having the VIN sequence number stamped into the transmission and the SO # stamped into the engine block (rather than the VIN seq number as the trans had) on the same car? If you do please e-mail me or post pictures of the stampings.

On a similar note, if you have phots of any SO number stampings (rather than VIN seq# stampings) on any 68 Hemi car engine or transmission I'd like to see pictures of those as well.

Thanks!

Scott,
This is a great topic about the 1968 models. I would even like to expand the question to the following for any engines:
1. The date when the S.O. number was changed over to the VIN by assembly plant.
2. Date when the full VIN was chaned to the last 8 digits.

Lynch Road Assembly
LA Assembly
Hamtramck Assembly (Dodge Main)
St. Louis Assembly

Scott,

I only have the original trany for my Hemi Road Runner and it will be a few days before I can take a picture of it for you. I can contribute the following information. My 68 Road Runner was a Lynch Road car with a build date of 4 May 68. The SO is 287580. The rail info is PK 2801544K 2413 0178 (6 March 68, #178 that day) Top of the case is stamped 8A2 87580.

Hope the info helps.

Jim
