Anyway to tell if a car had factory headrest by the FT? - 04/24/14 02:44 PM
I have a 69 GTS that I bought as a shell many years ago for the rearend, once I got it home I realized it was to nice to finish stripping. As many it was gutted for racing and had a 383 K-member under it. I have slowly been collectign the parts over the years and have it fairly complete now, one thing that I have not been able to determine is if it had head rest. It's a 927 SPD and I have the tag that includes C16 C55 and P6Y interior. It is a 4 speed 340 car if that matters.
Thanks in advance, Kevin

I know it was mandatory after Jan 1 69 but it was an option before then I believe. Just cant find anything that would give me an indication. What if it had shoulder belts, were they a package or could you get shoulder belts without headrest. When did shoulder belts become mandatory? I was thinking the beginning of the 69 production.

yes, I believe they were optional before 1/1/69. I know early 68's w/o headrests (that were an option) did not have shoulder belts.

1/1/68 front shoulder belts mandatory (OPTIONAL before that)
1/1/69 front seat headrests mandatory (OPTIONAL before that)
there were NO OPTION packages/groups that included these
Do you have the original (to this car) bucket seat? Is the headrest hardware in the seats?
