electrical question

have a 69 charger R/T with stock harnesses ..wan't to convert to MP electronic ignition , & put the later type electronic voltage regulator in , plus the duel field alternator , would a 60 amp one be ok .or would it be too many amps , & start burning stuff up .
are there any good wiring diagrams ??
for this conversion ???

any help would be appreciated

also heard the orange box is rubbish ??

To go with the newer alternator all you need to do is add one field wire from the alternator to the regulator. I would use a blue color. Get a new style regulator and plug pigtail. Your old original green field will go to the green on the new regulator pigtail and your original 12 volt blue feed will go to the other. You will also have to splice your added blue field wire to the blue pigtail splice. Thats basicly it.

Now you should bypass your ammeter [hook both wires togeather] and consider a voltmeter conversion to the OEM guage panel. You also should increase the size of the battery feed wire from the alternator and run it to the large stud on the starter relay. At that point you should install a large maxi fuse or fuse link.

If you buy a ignition conversion kit all the instructions will be there. If you chose to get your own box and distributor you can buy a ignition harness from Mancini Racing.

Some orange boxes fail some dont. You can always cary a used oem spare for safety.

another question ...fuseable links ... could you replace them with fuses in stead ... ?????????????????????/

Not that I am aware of. In this application the fuse is only for the alternator.

... yes i read your post , but then spent a good hour reading the link & looking a charger wiring diagrams ..the forgot all about what you said

You can use a fuse link but it seems like most newer cars and trucks get away from them and use a fuse on the alternator.

You can also run a circuit breaker. They have some nice high-amperage models in the car audio world. That's the route I'm going with, because you can simply reset it or open it as a suplemental anti-theft type power cut off.
