1968 426 HEMI intake fasteners - 03/04/14 04:05 PM

Hey gang. I tried doing a search in the forum for this, but came up with nothing.. So, I apologize if this repeated...

I am helping a friend who has a '68 Hemi Charger R/T, Nov. 67 build date. Now, '68 is an awkward year...... Being a 1st half production car, would it more than likely have a hemi that was built earlier with the '66-'67 allen head intake fasteners or the later year hex-head fastener?

Thanks in advance...

Troy,

I am interest to see what the experts have to say. If it were me, I would opt for the early version, as to the best of my knowledge, no one can give you an exact date that the parts bin ran empty and they made the switch. Just my thoughts.

That's what I mentioned to my friend. With the apparent mass-building of 426's in the '66/67 model year, who knows when the supply ran out and then add to the confusion, if all 426 cars and/or motors weren't built at the same assembly plant, then what?

hemi's were built at the marysville (mv or mn) plant/date/shift stamp by starter and as such when the allen caps ran out the switch to hex cap would be made.
I can verify the earliest '68's (aug/sept) did indeed have the allen caps, but don't know when the switch was made.
Also worth exploring is the cast date of the block to see if any correlation can be made.
