Were they originally painted black in the groove that surrounds the lense? Anyone have detail pics of low mileage unrestored original, or NOS?

as far as i know only se cars had the black inside the side marker grooves.

Most of the ones I've had over the years had traces of light argent (rallye wheel paint) in them - very few black.
But black/silver/nothing would all be correct

My former challenger 340 had no signs of any paint in the recesses.
It was an unrestored mostly originalpaint car when I get it
Currently working on a 1970 Challenger RT/SE , same deal no signs of any paint on any of the sidemarkers. This car is mostly unrestored with only an external repaint back in the early eighties.
I can't guarentee either car had/have there OEM sidemarkers, but I'd bet they were

Ok, thanks for all the replys. I couldn't find any black in mine, so I think I will just polish them up and leave them as is.

Hmmm....NOS?, painted by previous owner? maybe SE or some other trim package(spring special)? 71 model maybe?? just wondering out loud.....

I think these were OEM. I've got pics of a few more sets just like it. I've also got plenty of ones with no paint. I really doubt that this came down to a model or trim thing. More likely a supplier or running change thing.
Vlad said he's seen them argent too.
