Brushed Trim Ring Question

Brushed Trim Ring Question - 02/26/14 02:14 PM

My 1970 Duster 340 has Rallye 14 inch wheels with brushed trim rings. I would like to run 15 inch Rallye wheels on the back for a more aggressive stance. Does anybody make a 15 inch trim ring that has a close appearance to the 14 inch factory ring?

Pretty sure the 15" trim rings were all polished and not brushed.

I like the look of the brushed rings. If that's the case, I suppose I could try to duplicate the finish with fine sandpaper or some other abrasive.

It seems I stick my foot in my mouth too often, but here goes.

15 trim rings were brushed in 71.

Take your foot back out of your mouth. They were brushed for 71. To the OP, nobody makes the correct brushed ring. The outer lip is polished, so like you said the only thing you can do is sand it. What I'm going to do is tape off the lip, and put the ring on an old wheel mounted on the rear axle, then with around 400 sandpaper spin the wheel and sand the ring. The ring that are brushed look like it was done with 80 grit, just trash.

400 may be a bit harsh. I would try red scotch brite first. If that didnt work I would try some 600 wet.

Which polished 15 inch trim ring has the closest profile and best fit to an original?

Of the few aftermarket polished rings I have seen the ones from Specialty Wheels looked the best to me.

Specialty ring on the left. On the right another aftermarket ring I was considering due to being less money.

I went thru this a few months ago after ordering 15x7 rallies from Summit. I tried the polished and brushed rings and sent them back. I even tried an expensive set from year one and sent them back. The closest to original I found in terms of the fit and finish on the lip came from a place called LMC Truck
