How do you remove rust from inside doors & Truck bed?

How do you remove rust from inside doors & Truck bed? - 02/12/14 11:28 PM

I have a 64 sweptline truck that has rust inside the doors and on the truck bed, etc. I realize I can cut out the rust and make patch panels for some of the areas. But what about for large items and rust inside doors, around body seams on the cab, etc?

Blasting would remove all the accessable surface rust...but not the surface rust down in the doors, etc.

I don't want to just cover it up....I want to remove as much rust as possible.

They make no/few replacements panels for many of the areas I need to repair....so I can't easily replace whole panels and finding rust free replacements as been tough....

A lot of us face the same dilemma with our cars since the inside of the doors got only a quick shot of undercoating/sound deadener and that was it. It didn't take many rain storms before the moisture that got in the doors caused surface rust or worse.

Blasting is pretty much out of the question since it will only hit the areas the blast reaches, not down into the seams where most of the trouble will be.

I've talked to places that do dipping and they all agree that this isn't a guaranteed solution either since there is bound to be residue from either the acid or the neutralizer - each of which can lead to eventual issues down the road.

So I've come to the conclusion that the best method is to soak the insides with a rust converter - even going so far as to plug the drain holes and fill the door up a bit and let it sit to soak into the seams. Once drained and dry, soak the livin daylights out of it with Rustcheck or a similar product (do this AFTER all paint) and hope for the best.

Blast, osphos, lightly blast, blow out good and chassis saver.

i can dig pretty good with my blaster in seams and doors but you will never get it all. dipping or maybe cutting it open is a option too I suppose.

I have blasted the sweptline trucks and had no problems getting inside the whole door to blast.

I was toying with dipping the doors in the molasses stuff....now the bed would be harder to do...lol.

I have take a large piece of heavy plastic sheeting, wrapped the rear edge of a decklid, duct taped it, then filled the "bag" with Evapo-rust. Has worked very well for me.

Dig a hole in the ground of the size needed, lay plastic in it, then fill with evaporust.....
