What is the correct shifter knob for a 69 Charger RT with auto trans? The chrome one used in 68 or the wood one used in 70?

69 was woodgrain on everything I can think of. My R/T has a woodgrain knob but even though no woodgrain dash accent.

Every one I saw back in the early 1970s was the chrome style. I believe many were later "upgraded" by their owners...

Very early build '69's got the chrome one as they ran out the stock, after that it is wood grain.
You may see cars like the Charger 500 with the chrome, this is because they were among the first units off the line for 69.

It is a total crap shoot.
For example - Half the auto Daytona's (and they were later built cars) I have seen have chrome knobs. I don't think it has anything to do with early or late. Chrysler used what they had....they must have been shipped chrome ones frome the vendor at some point during the model year....and they used them up. Anything goes on this question.

My 69 RT with a build date 10/16/68 came with a chrome knob

Might be the case... My 1969 Charger was a middle of the production year car, and had chrome...

Agree. The parts book indicates two knobs with an Oct (?) change over but I think it was actually later.
The actual transition time depends on the plant (LR, Hamtramck, STL, and LA). Some cars I've seen with January (1969) SPDs have the chrome and some have wood. Generally Sept-Jan a chrome would be OK. Jan or later, wood is probably OK.
Daytonas seem to be the exception, not the norm.

My old 69 RT SE was very original and had the wooden knob. I believe it was a january 11th or 15th car? Somewhere around there.

Mine is a 928 SPD car.
