68 Barracuda column color question - 01/18/14 03:27 AM

I think someone has changed the column in my 68 notch'. The car has the red interior with white seats. The column and steering wheel are black. Should the column and wheel be red like the rest of the dash?

Thank you.

Should be dark red (burgundy). IIRC, 67 A-body has the same dark red. 69 red is a bright red and totally different.

Just curious, is your interior standard or deluxe?

I have some example pictures of 68 cudas with white and dark red ineriors BTW. My 68 was originally white and dark red std interior.

My 68 Notchback has the H6V (burgundy and white) interior. The steering column is burgundy.

I thought the column and wheel should be red. The interior is std with bench and armrest. It was a /6 car and probably 3 on the tree. It is now 360/4sp. I would guess they changed the column to get rid of the shifter. I wished they hadn't.

The car was a stripper when new. /6, stick shift, bench seat, radio delete.

I would like to find a nice steering wheel in the right color for it. Otherwise, I will paint the one I have when I paint the column covers.

Thanks for the help, guys.

Do you have the radio delete (not optioned for) plate still?

That burgandy fades a lots. Very tough to find a colored wheel thats not fades. Easier to find an uncracked wood wheel, but I'd think an uncracked wood wheel would sell for more.

Check the repro wheels from BEAparts and pgclassics.

Yes, the dash is uncut and original. The car only has 84k on it.

Could you post some pictures of that plate? I've seen some repro's advertised for sale. But I'd like to see what you have.

Here's pictures of a restored burgandy and white interior. Caution it has been restored.

Usually soft trim like padded dash, horn button, arm rests are a slightly different shade than injected molded platic parts and different than painted metal of course.

I especially like the wood wheel.
