How did U center the steering shaft inside the column?

Hey guys,
Just wondering out loud here but...
For those of you who have rebuilt your own steering column(s)
What did you use for the centering tool?

In the service manual, it calls for centering tool Miller C-4134
(which is impossible to find).

So, given the unavailability of this tool,
How do you guys center the steering shaft
inside the housing so it doesn't look or end up
off center when installed in the car?

If you've done this job, you've no doubt dealt with
this issue...

What did you end up doing?

What kind of car is this for?
On my 68 Body column the shafts have only one way to go, there is a keyed area for the steering wheel and the center shaft is a double D ..

with the steering shaft(coupler) mounted to the st,box,i moved the plate on the inside of the firewall(while turning the steeringwheel) until i was satisfied,feeling with my finger and eyeballing the space between the inner shaft and the lockouttube (70 E).

The steering column is for a 70 B Body (Coronet).

Assuming your referring to the keeping the steering shaft centered in the tube during installation, I cut 3 wedges (plastic or hard wood) placing them in 3 equal spaces, snugged between the shaft and tube during tightening of the firewall plates

Its been a while but there's a bearing toward the steering wheel that keeps the shaft straight by the wheel, and then there's a plastic bearing at the end of the housing that centers the tube. when its mounted to the steering box it usually centers itself in the tube.

I did take a piece of foam (from the heater box piping) and slid it into the tube over the shaft. I pushed it in far enough to be flush but keep dirt out.
