Cuda gas filler tube - 09/03/13 07:26 PM

Has anyone had any luck with "tinning" these tubes to get a somewhat factory looking finish? I have sweated plenty of pipes. I tried a quick test on a piece of steel tube the other day using flux and silver solder. Didn't work well. I don't couldn't get the piece of tube hot enough for the solder to flow.

Anyone?

thanks

There is a guy who restores them. I think his prices are reasonable too.

Allen Wilson, http://www.n96airgrabber.com/fillertube.htm

I think price varies by size of tube. My 69 A body was $60 plus freight 2 ways. Looks like new.

I've done several like this, worked out great!
While it is still hot, I used a piece of steel wool to smooth out any drips, etc. Once cooled down, I went over it with steel wool once again. After a few weeks the surface will darken a bit and look 99% correct.

Any chance you can post a picture (or two) of the results?
