66-67 Hemi Air Cleaner Base Finish

Does anyone know what the original factory dull silver plating/coating/finish was used on the chrome dome air cleaner base?

It looks similar to the finish on the cross ram velocity stacks. Anyone know what that was?

Jim, I have been told that it was a hot dip galvanizing, that can not be correctly duplicated today.

I have heard that before, but hot dip leaves a "splotchy" appearance and the air cleaner base has a more uniform finish. I have been experimenting with some different paints to try and come close to the original finish and I will let you know if I hit on anything.
