I was wondering that too. We just got a 69 GTX vert and the leaf springs are gloss black. I have heard that they could have been either way (painted gloss black or natural spring steel color) with my 69 Charger due to plant location or availability through different vendors. Our 69 GTX vert was built at the St. Louis plant with a SPO of 10/3/68.

Unless you can prove your springs were originally painted black with pictures or upon disassembly the safest bet is natural.

The Daytona I am doing now had black leafs. SPD of 4/27.

and that was a Hamtramck car I think right? Wonder if St. Louis plant did the same or had different practices?

I don't have any info on practices but I do know my 69 road runner convertible is a St louis car and it has natural springs. I disassembled the original date coded springs and there were "0" signs of any black paint. It was a 69,000 mile original number matching car when I got it.

Just curious, but what spo date is your 69 road runner vert? our spo date is 10/3/68.
