1971 "numbers"

Hi All,
I'm starting a 71 Super Bee resto and I don't have any info in my archives as to what the "part number" stampings/crayon marks would be for the engine and trans. Drivetrain is the numbers matching 383 - 23 spline 4 speed. Just want the car to be correct with markings etc...

Every car is its own best blueprint. Document the details on YOUR car if you want the best in factory correct accuracy.

If I had the original valve covers I would try to determine the number but the car has aftermarket valve covers on it. It's an L.A. build car so there's no broadcast sheet. I have not tried to gently degrease the 4-speed yet to see if I can see any remnents of the stamp. I was hoping someone would have a similiar car with a broadcast sheet and they would be able to give me the numbers for the valve cover and the trans stamp.

I understand. Bottom line is that if you add stamps and inspection marks to a car that does not have it's originals you are guessing, even if it's being copied from another car made the same day, on the same lines, with the same options, no two cars were exactly the same in that respect. IMO you are better leaving them off if you aren't 100% certain they are right for your car.

I don't think the "numbers" I am referring to are car specific. The code or Assembly number if you will is the corporation code number for a specific item. i.e. "603" being the code for a 1969 18-spline trans. Not trying to re-invent the wheel here. Since it seems you are the only guy paying any attention to my post I will assume nobody else here can provide the info I was looking for and move on to other issues with the car.
I completely understand what you are saying and I agree with you on the various markings etc... but for the numbers I think they are pretty generic.

I've never seen anybody try to 'recipe' any particular car as far as marks and #'s go. Best you can do (if you can't discover your original) is document every 71 Charger/Bee you find on the net and note the hows and whys of every picture with a mark you can find as to how accurate it may be. I bet most restos you run across this way are probably also somewhat guesses though. On my 70 RR I'm going to leave them off unless I find them on the car.

GREAT reference material, however, use it as a "Guide", it's the best one you'll find anywhere, however it's not an end all "Bible". While it's a great restoration tool, not all details will apply the same to every car.
