Goodyear Polyglas tire date code

Posted By: 70440+6bbl

Goodyear Polyglas tire date code - 05/28/13 05:36 PM

What does this date work out to? I'm pretty sure it is the original G60-15 spare tire to my car.

Re: Goodyear Polyglas tire date code - 05/28/13 07:27 PM

BANBJCDL

BA = (date) 31st week 1970 (~8/2/70)
NB = (plant) Goodyear Akron II, OH tire palnt
JC = (size) G60-15
DL = (type) fiberglass belted w/RWL

Sounds like a good fit.

Re: Goodyear Polyglas tire date code - 05/28/13 09:51 PM

I've got a totally different code on my original Goodyear spare tire. I think I've decoded some of it
JE91634 - Serial number

J – 1969
E – Nov
9 - ?
1 – Akron Plant
634 – sequence number

Anyone know what the 9 means?

Thanks Dan! It has never been on the ground and was still on the 450 steel wheel until this past November (guy put a new BFG on it).

What size is it F70-14 or F60-15? White stripe, RWL with size, RWL w/o size? Got pics?

I believe the last 3 digits are G34.
I believe that Goodyear used "01" & "91" to distinguish between plants I & II in Akron, OH before 1970. In '70 it was "NK" (and later ""MA") for plant I vs. "NB" (and later "MB") for plant II.

In 1970 they went to the format on James' tire. Calendar year 1971 DOT mandated a standardized coding for all tire manufacturers.

It is a F60-15 RWL. You are right - it is G34

You must have other charts because I couldn't make sense out of 2 shown

Now if I only knew what it came on.

Thanks Dan

Re: Goodyear Polyglas tire date code - 06/02/13 05:35 AM

It's a '72 Corvette tire (if they got them from Topeka, if not it's real close).

Re: Goodyear Polyglas tire date code - 06/02/13 05:50 PM

I thought it might be..

Couldn't it be for an earlier Corvette also. Maybe a replacement tire from a Goodyear store in 1971?

Re: Goodyear Polyglas tire date code - 06/03/13 05:19 AM

Is there any charts for a firestone wide oval?

Re: Goodyear Polyglas tire date code - 06/03/13 06:07 AM

Firestone had some type of system but I've seen NO "decode" material before the '71 calendar year DOT standardization.

What do you have? I've been collecting data to see if there is a way to reverse engineer any info from it.

Yes, Corvette started using that tire - nylon/F70-15 (Firestone & Uniroyal also) for the '68 model year (RWL in '69).

This post has explained the plant and date for Goodyear tires well. What is missing is a chart of codes for the size and type of tire. If someone has such a chart, would you mind adding it to this post? Thanks.

..... but I'd need numerous examples to prove the "educated guesses" - one tire I've been looking for proof of is a Firestone Wide Oval pre-1970 that is fiberglass-belted.

The picture below is the spare from a 69 Bee. G70 x 15 Redline. Doesn't seem to match any info in this post. Any ideas on the code?

Thanks. D
