1968 GTX brakes?

1968 GTX brakes? - 02/05/13 12:04 AM

I'm in the process of restoring the front suspension/brakes on my 68 GTX while the body is in the shop...so...according to my measurements the front and rear shoes are both 11 X 3. I can't seem to find them listed anywhere? Am I not looking in the right place? I'd like to find everything I need (wheel cylinders, hardware, etc.) from the same vendor...Suggestions? Thanks

Check a Federated Auto Parts store....had the same issues with brake shoes and front drums and none of the other auto parts stores (including NAPA which surprised me) could figure it out or find anything on the 3" parts.

I have a photo of the parts boxes for the shoes and drums with the part numbers I used for my '68 road runner but sorry not on this drive.....later is the best I can do.

I think the '68 road runner and '68 GTX shared the same brake parts.....

The rear shoes were originally 11"x2.5" and the front and rears were both manual adjustable.
If you have the original wheel cylinders, you can have them rebuilt to keep it original or just go to an autoparts store to buy what you need.

Thanks A12, It seems like I have been all over the 'net today and have struck out so far...I did find some 3"ers listed for a cop car on Rock Auto but the way they have them listed concerns me, I searched 1968 Plymouth GTX and got this?
"RAYBESTOS Part # 336RP RAYMOLD; 11.00 X 3.00
Front; Heavy Duty Brakes, Police Car; 11 x 3" Brakes [Wholesaler Closeout -- 30 Day Warranty] (Only 1 Remaining)"

Here's a set of 11" X 3" shoes with rivets that I found while looking for the 11" X 3" and in the photos after this one there's a kind of conformation stamped in for the 336 part number....these were originally a Bendix brake shoe

No problem. I would search for a Federated Auto Parts dealer or at least they were the most helpful (probably just the local guys here were real car guys) That's where I found the riveted linings on Pentastar cores and the Raybestos shoes too. I'm sure with the part number anyone can get them from Raybestos.

Yes it is , if Jim has it then you should have no problem finding it , Have you tried going to a parts store and having the person find you the parts ?

LOL...no I'm not new here that's why I recoginized the name, was just verifying in case I it was someone different. I was actually able to find everything I needed on RockAuto, the only thing that temporarily stumped me was the way they had the shoes listed for a 68 GTX cop car...hmmm that would have been interesting, 2 door high speed pursuit vehicle. A12 helped validate the part numbers so I got it all ordered.

You know now the "cop car" link is not off base as the A12's Dana with the big rear drum brakes are from police car application and I've heard the suspension on the road runner/super bee/GTX/R/T refered to as the police suspension and brakes
