Thanks. I sent my gauges off to an "expert" and asked for chrome and got chrome paint. This will be helpful.

I don't remember his name any more. I've changed email systems too many times. IIRC he was out of Chicago and a decade ago he was who everyone recommended.
I will say that some parts of his work are very nice. The "chrome" and the "original" looking wood grain are TERRIBLE. I'll post some photos later.

http://www.instrument-specialties.com/ in RI. I haven't sent my gauges there yet but did tour his facility and was very impressed with his work.
