69 Hemi B-Body Questions - 12/05/12 01:24 AM

Hey Guys,

Couple of Hemi B-Body questions for you restorer's out there....
Does anybody reproduce the Vac distribution valve found on 69 Hemi's?
Was this Valve also on 68 b-bodys?

Should the Trans cooler line have a clip in it to hold it to the rad cradle in 69? I know it does in 66 and 67 but not sure about 69... if it should have a clip, would anybody know the approx measurement from say the edge of the cradle?

Thanks...

I've seen those valves NOS on ebay quite a bit, ck there. I read somewhere that those were a recall item installed at the dealer after the fact. Don't real know for sure, I think there was a thing in Mopar Action about. Just saying if it was put on at the dealer, maybe leave it off.

Albeit you can find those valves around, the problem arises finding the proper bracket it attaches to which in turn attached to the back of the intake.

Scott Harms Smith has reproduced the correct bracket used with the Hemi engine application.
Although the green cap is the same for all, the Hemi valve ( pictured ) had larger nipple tubes on the body than the 6 cyl and regular V8 ones.

From my research the only 68 Hemi b-body's that got the Vac distribution valve was California cars.

I can't speak to 1969, and I am barely qualified to speak to 1968. My sample has been gone for a number of years, and was previously molested anyway.

I believe that there should be a clip on the line that goes over the core support, on top. I am going from memory here, but I don't recall a separate hole for the clip. It might have been inserted between the two sheet metal pieces, using the large fastener already at that location. The good news is that, although my comments are perhaps not concrete enough to help you, they have a good chance of flushing out someone with more detail and anxious to correct me.

Exhibit one of two - someone else's photo of someone else's car with the mystery clip in place.

Exhibit two of two - my photo of my old car.

Clip is present, but dangling. No apparent hole for clip in top of core support.
(Ignore the precision work where A12 style hood pins had previously been installed...)

..and held in place with a large headed phillips screw. That same screw is used in the interior..dash, etc.

My 68 RR still has the green vacuum canister. As far the clip for the tranny cooler goes I have seen it mounted in both orientations, left or right of the line. It was probably just who was working the line that particular shift. Most I've seen were philips head like mine but have seen a few that used hex head screws.

FWIW, Cars with A/C also used a similar clip on top of the rad support with a phillips head screw. The big block A/C cars used a single A/C line and clip on each side of the rad support instead of the (2 in 1) like this small block car.

I had to weld in the hole on this car when converting to non A/C.

My original '68 Hemi Charger was originally from Missouri, it still had the original dealership decal on the deck lip edge and it had it.. Maybe it was a fluke?
