70 B Body - Question about trunk floor extension...

I am replacing the trunk pans and extensions with reproduction pieces. This tab on the back end of the trunk extension...how did factory attach this?

Originals usually have a slight taper on the front edge and are sporting a nasty weld. Not hard to duplicate.
