Darrell Davis Max Wedge Books question. - 07/27/12 03:11 PM

Do his books list the original dealer a car was shipped to? There was a 64 dodge max wedge hardtop with aluminum front end that was sold new in this area.Guy drove it on the street and raced it some.It supposedly still exists and was in Florida in the early 90's.I thought if I could find the vin in Davis's book I could track it down. Original owners name was Mike Smith and the car had "The Confederate" painted on the trunk lid.Car was green.

Darrell's books have the VINs, don't recall whether they have selling dealers; sorry but I don't have my copy handy.

It was called The Confederate.I have never heard Sweet Pea associated with this car.I don't know who Mike sold it to but I suppose it could have got that name after he sold it.Aluminum nose hardtop would have to be pretty rare even in Max Wedge cirlces right?

Darrell Davis Max Wedge Books list the dealer by the 5 digit dealer code, not by name.

The dealer code would have been 57653 Hiatt Auto Sales if any body has the book handy.

On a side note in '65 they took delivery of a '65 A990 dodge that is still around.I saw it for sale on e-bay a couple years ago.It was later raced by Tom Crutchfield but was actually street driven and raced by the original owner.

The '64 book shows NO '64 Max Wedge or HEMI cars shipped to Hiatt's Auto Sales (dealer # 57653).

1964 MW Dodge hardtops are few: 440 = 39 (w/aluminum nose = 20), Polara = 5, & Polara 500 = 5

4 are KK1 ("medium turquoise metallic") 2 are LL1 ("dark green")

Only ONE of the above (440 - LL1 - automatic) has the aluminum front end from the factory.
Shipped to dealer # 52436 (I do not know the dealer ??), but it is the same region as Hiatt's - 41 (Cincinnati).

Maybe Hiatts got it from another dealer.Everytime I have heard a story about this car I was always told that Mike bought it from Hiatts.Oh well memories get fuzzy and details are forgotten.Just thought it would be neat to see where the car is today.A few minutes ago I talked to a guy that used to live down the street from The Confederate. He said he thought it was a blue sedan and for sure an automatic with the aluminum frontend. He said the owner used to yell at him for riding his bicycle by too many times while his wife sun bathed in the front yard LOL! Thanks for all the responses guys.

If I had the money that '65 would have been prowling the streets of Marion again! My uncle(not really a mopar guy)was friends with the original owner and a street racer himself. He went for a few rides in the '65 and described it as the fastest rev-ing car he has ever ridden in.

I do not want to change the flow of this post. If someone on the thread has a Davis book what is the production numbers for a 63 330 sedan max wedge 3 speed, steel nose, I just uncovered one several weeks back.

I have one. Send me the VIN number and I'll confirm that it's in the book along with the production numbers.
