71 Duster hood black out ?

71 Duster hood black out ? - 07/26/12 05:49 PM

Debating with other if the 71 Duster (and any A body with a hood black out) used the same Organosol paint as B and E bodies or if it was non-textured. The argument is that the big 340 Wedge decal wont lay down right on the texture Organosol. 70 dart 340s and 73 Duster 340/Twisters also had black out options but no decals

Looking in areas where some original orgonasol was still present before restoration I can tell you there is a slight texture, nothing too extreme, and it has the slight metallic type fleck in it as well.

Hard to tell from this picture but this is a survivor car that I'm after with very very low mileage. All the paint on this car is like brand new and all original. There does not seem to be much texture in the satin black at all.

I agree. I owned an original paint car with the hood blackout option too and there was almost no texture to it. Actually it's more like a metallic flat black. Still have an original paint 69 Road Runner fender with the factory applied Organosol and Its metallic flat black. Same goes for a 69 Charger R/T tailpanel. Under the trim etc it is the same. No texture
All these cars at the shows with the textured hoods are wrong! While it looks cool, they never were that " gritty".
The Organosol debate will never end but from first hand experience with original paint cars I can vouch that they were not really textured.

We have done a few car hoods in what is supposed to be correct textured black paint and it was so ruff that you couldnt even wipe it down with a rag with out pulling lint off of it. There's alot of cars out there have too much texture. I agree that's there some texture but it's very very little and after it's sprayed and dried you should be able wipe the hood or what ever you sprayed with it with a rag and not have it grab your rag like a piece of sand paper.

I've posted up close pics of some kind of obvious texture on ORIGINAL cars... keep in mind that different years, model lines, shifts. and plants might have had a slight variance in the texture...example an hood for an A12 car may have come pre finished Vs a Road Runner that was shot at the plant.

I am thinking about a 71 FC7 340 4spd V24, houndstooth interior car I missed. It was a friends not for sale un-advertised ride, I had 5K in my pocket and he said no. I gave my wife the cash and he called me a few days later fishing for $5500 ....man.
