Sticking gas tank pad to tank?

Sticking gas tank pad to tank? - 05/29/12 10:36 PM

Putting a new tank in my 66 Satellite. I'm going to use a double layer of tar paper for a pad as I have a lot of it laying around. What would work for sticking it to the tank? I tried some spray undercoating but that won't work. I was thinking maybe some of that brush-on tar for patching roofs. Any experience with this on here?

Why do you want it to stick?

Used contact cement on mine to get all the pieces to stay down just like the factory did:

I'm using 2 layers because what I have is thinner than the factory one was. I guess just to hold them in place while I put it in. The original was glued on with something, wouldn't come off w/o tearing it up.

I agree, 3M spray adhesive. I have used it for headliners and carpet jute, great stuff! (Not the spray on foam insulation)
