Carb info - 05/05/12 10:02 PM

My friend has a 70 Road Runner, 383, 4 speed, 4 barrel.

He wants to find the proper carb for this engine and I told him I'd ask the experts. He has a build sheet (mostly legible) if needed. He's also wondering if there was some sort of spacer or a certain gasket used for the carb. He says it has some sort of metal gasket at the moment.

So... anyone?

Thanks...

Holley 4367 unless it is an N95 emissions car or a fresh air equipped car. Is it either or both of those? If so, it will use a different Holley 4bbl. Is the CARB section of his broadcast sheet legible? It is located in the top third of the sheet.

He says it has a Carter at the moment, so it definitely should be a Holley in 1970?

What exactly do we need to look for on the broadcast sheet, I assume it's not clearly spelled out....

It IS clearly spelled out! Fourth line down from the top, there are two numbers listed under CARB. That would be three boxes in from the left side of the sheet. What are the two numbers?

OK he finally found his sheet. The CARB code is 36.

The carb. service number that corresponds to that is 3418 536 which is for a Holley 4367 4bbl carb. If he really wants a correct one, you will need to find out the SPD(Scheduled Production Date) of the car. It is located under Vehicle Production Number at the top of the broadcast sheet. It is the first three digits on the left.
Then find a 4367 dated previous to that date. I may have one, or Scott Smith at Harms Auto may also. Let me know what the three digits are.

I have a 3039 dated (Thursday, 10/30/69) Holley 4367 that I won't be using.

Just to piggy back on this thread with a quickie of a question. I have a 70 Challenger R/T with a scheduled date of 5/15/70 and the holley carb (4368) has a date 71 days prior. Would that be considered in the realm of acceptable build dates?

What is the assembly date on the engine ?

that asked , the engine was stamped with an assembly date before being painted and the carb was installed after paint ... I ASSuME ... so it should still be AROUND the assembly , but more than likely BEFORE ...

Scoot and others probably have a better idea.

Oh and don't go looking to dan for a price on that carb , he's a few hundred HIGH on his pricing ...

It's been a heck of a long time since I've checked those codes. I've had the car since '91. Where would it be on a 383 car?
