anyone ever come across this before on a carb? - 05/01/12 05:00 PM

Figured I would pass this on as I just came across this on a virgin carter AVS 4 bbl carb, dated J9 carb number 4934S for our 70 challenger convertible. The carb still had the brass screws that held the throttle plates to the throttle shafts and everywhere else still had the swedged or squashed over ends of the threads so they cuold not back out. It appears to be a rubber ink stamping on the back side of the top plate for the carburetor from our 70 challenger which has a SPO date of Sept. 28, 1969. The stamp either appears to be I94 or 194. Possibly a date code which the carb was assembled?

Love to hear your imput on this who might have come across this as this is a new one to me.

here is another pic. I am currently rebuilding it and have all of the linkage out for replating. This stamping was found on the back side facing the firewall on the top plate / part of the carb.

Yes, those show up now and then on original carbs, not enough is known about them to nail down an absalute meaning but most appear to be some type of inspectors mark or relate to the application or part#. If you put a scale next to it and take good close up macro pics you can have a duplicate rubber stamp made by a good stamp supplier and ad it back after your restoration. I do that for the ones I find on customer carbs I do.

well, if it is a date code, then it would come out to July 13th on the Julian calendar and the J9 date code would correspond to Sept of 69. Giving it that 2 mos window for assemebly?
