Carburator date code question? - 03/21/12 07:21 PM

I found an old carter carb, and i'm wondering if it is dated correctly for my Superbird..

It's a Carter carb. Carb # 4738S Build date 2259 part number 54.

Is this properly coded for a 1970 Superbird 440 4bbl? B30 production date.

Thanks

If it's the correct part number, I believe it would be considered an acceptable date code for your car since it precedes the SPD but it would also be considered a real early date.

carburetor date codes varied tremendously. As long as it precedes your cars spd it's fine. A date only a week or few days before may be a little tight simply to alow some time for it to be shipped from the vendor to the production line.

John,
That's about two months earlier than the average, most birds are in the 280/290 range, guess it depends on how critical one wants to be as far as numbers. Most are stamped K9/L9,being October / November of 69.

B30 is the SPD on all birds, Not thae actual SPD of your car.
