Vehicle Order Number Code Help

Vehicle Order Number Code Help - 01/06/12 09:08 PM

I am decoding a broadcast sheet for a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T sunroof car. The car was built on Hamtramck on Aug. 2nd, 1969 (Early Production!) and is a "Special Handling Car". The VON Code is 802 M00208. Does anyone know what the M code is? I was told it was for special cars designated for show purposes.

Thanks

The M code denotes sunroof. All 70 and 71 72 sunroof cars had a letter in the 1st position of the order code 73 they went to fender tag codes.

Y05 Built to US specs.
Y16 Sales bank car.

The 802 is August 2nd

I just checked my reference stuff and are you sure it is am m000208 not an n000208 as they did not start with m.

My buddy has a sunroof registry and has all the information on these cars. If you need any info on them pm me. He has all the diagrams for the sun roof and illustrations.

No, its definitely an M code. It's clear on the Broadcast sheet as well as the fender tag.

M0 has different meanings for the 1970 model year.

Early cars like yours it means Show car / Sales Bank.

It would have been used for some type of promotional purpose, car show, magazine road test, print ad or commercial to name a few possibilities. Once the purpose was met, it would have been sold at a nearby dealership in most cases.

Sunroof cars in '70 were normally noted by a K in the VON, but in some cases like this one the K got the boot & the M0 was used due to the car's intended purpose - whatever that was.

Later in the model year M0 just meant Sales Bank (Y16) as found on most AAR Cudas & some other models like Valiants & Dusters.

Re: Vehicle Order Number Code Help - 01/07/12 03:20 AM

Yes and Barry the other one was N0 for executive car. But this one is number 208 and all the sales promotion cars would be in the 100 as they started with 100 in the early run as they only had 2 runs of sunroof cars in 70 and 3 in 71. All this info is from Kyle with the Gator Grain sunroof car. The latest number in his collection is 204 and was made in October 69 so this one does not go in sequence unless it was a 802 in 70.

I have not seen an N prefix VON for any 1970 car. Yet.

Sunroof cars popped up through out the entire model year as well.

Car was not assembled on Staurday, 8/2/69 .....
something like

Your M00208 is the 208th "assigned" Vehicle Order Number, originated internally at Dodge (Chrysler Corp.) for the '70 model year. Most/all of these 802-SPD vehicles appear to be "promo" (Introductory Show Units) cars & a couple have been in MCG recently (6bbl Challenger R/T convertible & 6bbl Super Bee).

Since you have the b'cast sheet, what is the sequence number (line 1 first 7 digits)? WAG somewhere around 1 002000 ?

What else can you share about the car? Got pics?

The sequence number is 2 002077.

The car is a Plum Crazy 440-4bbl Auto and is loaded with options. Once I get everything decoded I will share more.
