Tips and Tricks for polishing / buffing Stainless Trim - 01/01/12 06:35 AM

I don't post much, but I lurk everyday! Great site and I thought I would share a video I made to help others out when they want to restore their stainless trim.

Hopefully this video gives some the confidence and knowledge to restore their trim and take their project to the next level. Please remember I do this for a hobby, so positive comments are very much appreciated.

Here's the video on polishing / buffing stainless steel trim.

Great video's. When sanding by hand I always use somekind of straight backing behind my sandpaper (ie:piece of wood). I always find other dips or waves in the metal doing it this way. If you use your fingers they kind of follow the dips/waves.

Good reference, I never tought of using the DA before.

I agree good job on the videos, I wrap the sand paper around the file to keep things flat... Also I clean the file frequently so the filings don't create scratches.... FWIW the DA of choice..

Excellent video! I learned quite a bit. Where did you get your trim dolly/anvil?

something to add.
try to sand in one direction.
when you sand with the next finer grit. sand at a 90* angle to the last grit, just like cross blocking in body work. when you do that it's much easier to see the scratches left by the coarser grit so you know they are removed.

Great videos Cody. Thanks for taking the time to do them. I was going to send my trim out but I'm sure I can do it myself. Luckily I've already got 70% of the stuff I'll need.

The one I have is from Eastwood. You'll need to reshape the pick end of the hammer to make it smoother and the correct shape.

Good luck and feel free to call me if you need any help. PM me for my number.
