Using Rust Prevention Magic on battery cable heads. - 12/29/11 08:05 PM

Im thinking i maby could use RPM on the clamps/heads of the battery cables..

Have anyone tried?

What color/shade should the heads have original?

Are the heads made of bare metal or do they have some kind of coating or other material?

If i clean them off with steel wool and then put on the RPM i afraid to get a wrong shade/color on the heads..

I want it to look original.

i'm guessing you are refering to the terminal ends. for 30+ years all i have used is a simple spraying of wd40 on 'em. nothing "grows" and they stay a natural color. no greasy mess when removing them either. coatings and grease are applied only to prevent corrosion. i don't believe anything was applied from the factory, but many times stuff was applied when the dealer prepped the car for sale.

Thanks! So you are saying the terminal ends that goes to the battery was bare metal without any coating protection?

You can see my terminal ends on the picture, they have a grey finish, but they also have some deep scratches..

Clean them up with a file and sandpaper, you will be surprised how quickly they will oxidize back to the gray color.
