Aspen/Volare Rearend Question

This may have been posted before, but what is the closest/best 8 3/4 rearend to use to fit in a Aspen/Volare body. Is an A body a straight bolt in? Looking at building a new "stocker". Thanks, Dyno

Think the early B-bodies will work, I know a Dippy rear will fit like a 68 Charger. Heres a rear end chart with dimensions from the tech archives.


Edit: I was thinking backwards but fixed it.

1965 to 1970 B-body axles are the closest fit to the F/J/M platform. Spring perch centers are 44" compared to F/J/M 44.46" perch centers. Here is 8.75 to M-body swap info which will also apply to the Aspen/Volare bodies.

I swapped a '68 B body 8 3/4 into my 80 Mirada. What I did was remove the iso clamp setup from the springs and got rid of the large center bolts it uses. After I replaced them with regular 1/2 inch center bolts the rear end pretty much dropped right on the springs. Pinion angle was even fine as-is. doing it this way you have to use older A/B/C shock plates and B body shocks.

I also had to make a little bracket to move the brake tee to the left a little, as the 8 3/4 axle vent bolt was in a different spot than on the old 7 1/4 that was in it.

Regular E-body 8 3/4 with Jeep Grand Cherokee 16" aluminum wheels gives perfect backspacing and nice , lightweight wheels..... 97 Jeep wheels are what I used and got 4 for $100 and look nice as well!!! TBF
