Ductile rocker arm side clearance?

Ductile rocker arm side clearance? - 10/31/11 03:15 PM

What would be considered an acceptable side clearance range for ductile iron rocker arms using spacers and shims instead of springs?

with the arms centered over the tip I'd be comfortable with .015" (per pair)

Spacers & shims work fine..
But be sure to check the clearance after torqueing down the shafts, as this can/will change its clearances..

Our preference is to do the shaft rocker setup with shims on a dummy head 1st, and we use a Dremel to modify the shim if required.. And finally we transfer entire shaft/rockers/shims to the final head..

Just my $0.02..

You need to check them when hot , after you reset the lash hot

Thanks all.

These rockers were bushed, machined, and assembled by RAS and have already been mocked up and then shipped. There is some variability in side clearance between rocker pairs, so I just wanted some idea of what range it should fall in for double checking during assembly...
