Question about restoring 74 Plymouth Roadrunner

Question about restoring 74 Plymouth Roadrunner - 05/20/08 02:50 PM

I am trying to help my non-internet dad out.

He's working on a 74 Plymouth Roadrunner. The rear quarter panels (?) are too rusted out and we need to find new ones.

He says the only thing that will fit there is the '73 and '74 Roadrunner or Satellite models.

Are there any other B Body cars who have rear quarter panels that would work?

He'll have to find a set off a parts car. Might be a better Idea to find a nicer body to restore.

no. Charger and sat/RR were very different looking in 74. Are they all ate up or can they be patched? You should check into junk yards.

No repop 1/4's available, and only 73-74 Plymouth Satellite/RoadRunner sheet metal will interchange. 71-72 has a different body line maybe 8" or so from the bottom that 73-74 do not have.

Only options are to fix what's there or start looking for some used sheet metal.

Speaking from personal experience on these cars, I would invest in a phone call to this place and see what they can do for you:

http://www.autobodyspecialt.com/

Middlefield CT

Highly recommended.

If you go the salvage yard route please remember "rust free" does not mean "bondo free" or "dent free" and that you may need to spend some extra $$$ for proper packaging and shipping.

Good luck to ya

Their website does now list a rear 1/4 repair panel. Anyone try it?

My brother got some quite a few years back from a place I thought it was Sherman?, they were half quarters as I remember.

What about the inner and outer wheel housings? Are they different between Road Runner and Charger for 73-74?

Not always.A few wanted ads on various message boards or Hemmings or MCG might turn up something. Maybe somebody has the parts laying around or has a wrecked showcar they are parting.

There were some aftermarket quarters produced years ago. They were not the best quality though.

Boils down to time and money.

I cannot urge strongly enough to never purchase anything sight unseen or without pictures.

edit: All I am saying is there is no easy way to call up and order these pieces like the earlier B-bodies.

AMD is releasing the inner & outer wheelwells, same parts as used on the 71-72 Road Runners. Same thing goes for the trunk floors & trunk extensions! Thank you AMD!!!!
