AMD, Sherman or Goodmark? - 10/27/11 11:10 AM

Which brand is better to replace both quarter panels of a Plymouth Satellite? I'm als considering partial or full quarter panels...

Re: AMD, Sherman or Goodmark? - 10/27/11 01:11 PM

all 3 have thier warts...
i have recieved poor fitting parts and bad customer service from amd myself.
i would suggest finding a vendor that gives no hassle
for returns
so you will not go thru the bs i did
it gets very frustrating after a while..

I would use AMD hands down.Their customer service is great and I never had a hick up dealing with them.

Sold a bunch of AMD parts including full quarters for 68 Satelite to a local customer, he is very happy.

I had AMD quarters for a challenger. Both sides had to be modified to fit. I'll try another brand next time. The only way I'd rate customer service as good, is if they'll take them back with a full refund.

Does anyone else have experience with Sherman?? Can get 2 skins for a good price...

I bought a AMD lower quarter patch panel for my Dart, it's about 1/2" shorter than the factory. I'll have to cut it and use the parts I need.

i was going to try sherman but never did. i have used goodmark and amd. i have had a little better experience with amd fitting a little better. but have had both brands need some work to be correct at times.
i just ordered from goodmark again and it was a shaker ring. the studs were hollow and snapped off before i got them even tight. they did shop me a new one for free though, i went through vince at Muscle Car Pit Stop in PA. he has always treated me good

Word to the wise...

When it comes to mopar sheet metal
Here's a typical Shermans scenario... Buyer beware

1) Shermans will sell you 2 skins for a very decent price
2) You pay the "decent price" plus frieght...
3) You open box and the decent price skins are pitiful at best
numerous dents etc... not total junk mind you ...but rough
4) Shermans is happy to refund your order IF and only IF YOU PAY
REVERSE FRIEGHT!
5) or Shermans may discount the price of the skins maybe 25% off..

either way you, the paying customer are stuck with 1 of 2 options

1)You pay freight TWICE for panels you NEVER use
or
2) You're stuck with 2 skins that aren't worth the
effort to put on a car.... or at best you HAVE
to use body filler on the ENTIRE side of the car
to straighten it out....

Still intersted in Shermans?

My personal recommendation -
GO WITH AMD all the way....

I bought 2 sherman 70 roadrunner skins from rockauto and was happy. They arrived in good shape, but I don't know if I would use them on a real runner. The scoop stamping is ok, but they will need some finish work. I just wanted the scoops so the price was the main factor.

It's more the fitting of the skin I am interested in... Would Sherman be a good option without too much work?

I live just a couple of miles from them...
I hung a couple of quarters on a 70 Charger... I spent
way more time getting them to fit and a ton of time
getting them straight... but I didnt have a choice...
they were the only ones to be had

Re: AMD, Sherman or Goodmark? - 11/24/11 07:14 PM

My experience with Shermans was a collection of relatively expensive repair panels. They worked, but not without a lot of labor. Fit and finish were not consistent with the price paid. In my case they were the only source that had what I needed. This was 4-5 years back. A customer feedback card came with the shipment. I filled it out and returned it with my input. Never heard anything back.

Save the money heartache and aggravation, go with AMD or forget it...especially since you are over seas...

Re: AMD, Sherman or Goodmark? - 11/25/11 04:34 PM

As far as fitting a full quarter vs. a skin I would go full any day. The amount of welding and finish work on a skin is a pain, and its a long trial and error process getting it fit. I am not a pro, but I have done skins butt-welded, skins lap welded, and full quarter, and when possible I would go full quarter, even with the price difference.

Re: AMD, Sherman or Goodmark? - 11/25/11 06:17 PM

Huh

I am happy with the swinger floors and quarters I bought off sherman from rockauto. The price was right too. It was for a dart though, not a sat. Maybe it depends on each part and how good their die is for that part? Or is the service and quality better across the board with AMD?

still haven't made a choice... the price of Sherman metal is better than AMD, but when it needs more work, it's not worth it...

Holy Crap Old 318- Thats EXACTLY what happened to me. My cuda quarters were crumpled/unusable. Sherman said it was R&L carriers fault. R&L said it was Shermans fault. I filed complaints with BOTH OF THEM and both were deemed they were not at fault. After a month I had to ship the quarters back ON MY DIME and then my credit card reversed the charges. I then spent more monet at Year One but the saleman promised me if I had ANY issues they would take them back- shipping paid for by them. I paid $50 more per side thru Year One over Shemans but is was worth it. I still have disdain for Shermans and R$L Trucking.

Re: AMD, Sherman or Goodmark? - 03/21/12 01:09 PM

bought a set of quarters from shermans a couple years ago for my 70 satellite. since i live not too far from them, I went to the warehouse to buy the quarters. after I paid the bill, they brought out a set and I could not believe what they brought out. the quarters were almost folded in half by the center of the wheel opening and the protective coating was gouged in many places. they brought out 3 sets before i left with a decent set. also bought front floors and a four speed hump at the same time. guess they arent too familiar with picky showroom customers because after I got home I looked at the bill and endend up not being charged for the four speed hump. So...my experience with shermans is a good one, but I would never buy any part for my car unless I inspected it first hand.

I bought an AMD dual exhaust rear valance for my Challenger last year. Fit like a glove. Zero modification necessary.

comparing the panels- they don't compare.

AMD skins are heavy guage metal.
They have the dogleg at the rocker joint.
They fold into the taillights opening like original
they are the right dimensions
they have sharp folds like original
the AMD skins are their actual full 1/4's with the top portion removed.

the Sherman panels are the same old no name skin, that have been available for 20 + years.
They are thin guage and lumpy
They have no dogleg
they kInda fold over at the taillights opening- not even close to correct there
they are oversized- can actually fit right over top of the cars original 1/4.
The door jamb fold is soft and doesn't look right
I have used these skins many times and they will work but now with the AMD panels
available, there is no way I'll ever go back.

I can't comment on the Goodmark skins. Haven't seen theirs in person but I know they were selling the same generic skins too.

Every AMD part I have used on my car has been very high quality and needs minimal prep. I put in their trunk extensions and front/rear valence on my Charger...went on easily.

The steel gauge is accurate (read thick) too which is a nice change from the wimpy "skins" other vendors sell

"the quarters were almost folded in half by the center of the wheel opening" EXACTLY how mine were!! They looked folded in half but then unfolded. The guy at Sherman assured me they would make it right after R&L Carriers declined to cover. After a week the guy at Shermans (I think his name was Ron Steele) stopped taking my calls. His receptionist would say he is out in the warehouse. She told me he would return my call but it never happened.

I went on AMD's web site last night. I'm impressed with all the parts I seen on there! I just wish they made stuff for my 73-72 plymouths. I asked about 1/4s for 73-74 roadrunners and fenders for chargers. and this is the respons i got this morning

Mike,

Right now we just have the lower rear quarter patch. It’s possible we will make a larger panel at a later date

but nothing is currently in development. No plans on the 71-up Charger fenders.

Sorry that I don’t have better news.

I have a very nice set of quarters on the 73 Satelite/Roadrunner parts car listed in the for sale section. You can have the whole car for what 1 quarter would cost you. The car is in Idaho.
